Strengthening Our Community
We’re not just about manufacturing and distributing steel and recognise the importance of enhancing the bond between the community and our business. Whether it’s helping with disaster relief, fund-raising for a good cause, or making life a bit more fun, we’re involved in projects that benefit communities across Australia.
Getting involved with our local communities contributes to the culture at our sites as our people work together to improve lives. Strengthening communities also means purchasing from local businesses and hiring staff locally to ensure towns and regions continue to thrive.
A few of our community support initiatives include:
- The MCS Bundy team worked with local community organisations that volunteered to help protect their region as part of the site’s environmental plan to offset their carbon footprint. Their work included planting to protect the sand dunes and turtle population at Mon Repos.
- Our Geelong team sponsored the VIC StreetSmart Booklet Publication for teenagers to tackle homelessness.
- The team at Metalcorp Bundaberg partnered with Hearts of Purple – which helps victims of domestic violence and breaks the cycle of abuse – to raise much-needed funds through the Purple Bin 10c recycle program.
- At our manufacturing facility in Northgate, Queensland, the team plays ping pong every Harmony Day as a universal way of bringing people together through sport. Everyone brings a plate of food that is special to them and talks about the cultural heritage of the food. It’s a great way to connect with people and learn something new about them and their culture. This helps people learn about cultural diversity and value differences.
